Some of the dunes at Sossusvlei, such as 'Big Daddy', are over 325 meters (1,066 feet) high, making them some of the tallest sand structures on Earth.

The brilliant 17th-century ruler of the Ndongo and Matamba kingdoms in modern-day Angola, she waged a legendary, decades-long military and diplomatic war against Portuguese colonial expansion. Her masterful tactics and alliances reshaped the region's resistance.

During peace talks, when a Portuguese governor refused her a chair to assert dominance, Nzinga ordered her servant to act as a human seat so she could negotiate at eye level.
